Homeopathic vaccines: an alternative.

For parents who choose not to have their children vaccinated, Vancouver's Access Natural Healing Holistic Health Centre is now offering homeopathic immunization program.

For parents who choose not to have their children vaccinated, Vancouver's Access Natural Healing Holistic Health Centre is now offering homeopathic immunization program. The program, which is not endorsed by Vancouver Coastal Health, is based on the research of Issac Golden, who researched natural methods of preventing infectious diseases over a 15-year-period in Australia, according to El Cecchetto, homeopathic practitioner for the clinic. 

"The protocol was developed taking into consideration what is most of concern to parents - what is something that the children are likely to be affected by within the area and what is the most potentially damaging."

The remedies are taken orally and parents can choose from two different programs.

The first one covers whooping cough, influenza, polio, meningitis, tetanus and pneumococcal infections (which includes infections of the brain, blood, lungs and ears). Alternatively, parents can choose to be covered for whenever there is a localized outbreak of diseases like measles, polio, meningitis, hepatitis B, influenza and tetanus. Immunizations for travellers are also available.

These vaccines are meant to work the same way as traditional ones by stimulating the immune system and allowing it to recognize and ward off infections, said Cecchetto. The difference is the substance administered is repeatedly diluted with water in the homeopathic process.  

"They're diluted to the point where they're not a crude substance_ it's more the molecular structure of the crude system," said Cecchetto. 

This method is a natural, non-toxic alternative for parents who are aren't sure traditional vaccinations are right for them, she added.

"We just support anyone who's looking for more information_ It's really just allowing parents to make their own choices."
